Freedom's INK Reviews Monica Monet's "Nappy Halo Vol 1"

Monica Monet is not your cookie cutter R&B/Soul Diva. This lady emits soul from her spirit. With a voice that was forged from church where she started her singing career and has only gained more power and depth throughout her career, Monica is a force of that hits you something like a tsunami. "Gravity" is a classic track. Classic in that it will be remembered by fans and critic's alike as a timeless song describing the need to move on from an unhealthy relationship. Nappy Halo Volume 1 is filled with tracks that you will not only find stuck in your mind, but you will find yourself in. "Home", "Natual High", "Memories" and many more are all solid well put together tracks that uplift and inspire. The upbeat 'Going out' and "I am not your project' will have you dancing in your seat! Monica pulls double duty by writing all the tracks and i must say, she has a gifted pen. www.freedomsinkpresentsthespot.blogspot.com

Freedom's INK reviews "Experience" by Mahogany Dust

From Atlanta, GI'Twice (singer, guitar) and DNA (spoken word, guitar) have been doing their thing since 2007. Both eventually left their jobs as Microbiologists to pursue music their own way, with their own sound they like to call "Spoken Soul." Gi-Twice's jazz inspired leads give way to song after song of finger snappin hooks that will stay in your head for hours. DNA is razor sharp, his spoken word gets to the hard of the matter with an aggression of that Uncle that has been there and done that. Together the fusion creates a friction that brings the heat track after track! "Experience", the follow up to their debut cd "Livin" is solid music. It's deliberate, it takes you places. It reminds me of what I have been missing in newer artists today. The Experience of listening to a cd that you truly enjoy. That you can listen to from begining to end and keep on repeat. The title track "Experience" is an uptempo track where Mahogany Dust gives you the options, learn from your mistakes and get on the right path, or keep bumpin your head. You might chose wrong, but you can't say they didn't warn ya! I have quite a few fav's from the album, "Friday" will have you singing all night long. "Chillin at the Bar" is a short track that takes you back in the day, it's a smooth groove boy meets girl story, that will have you smilin and dancin' in your seat. "Goodbye" is a beautiful song in which Gi-Twice expertly pulls you into the pain of letting go to move on. DNA hits hard with the truth about those of us who are too afraid to 'turn to the next chapter. I could go on and on. All the songs on the "Experience" cd are carefully crafted from the spirit of these two dynamic and talented people. You will not be disappointed.

Freedom's INK reviews "Beyond The Stage" by Eryk Moore

Mr. Moore sets a unbelievably high bar with Beyond The Stage. Each track pulls you deeper into this mans soul and grips you there. Filled with raw emotions, there is honesty in this wonderfully produced collection. Eryk Moore truly gives you a glimpse into who he is. "Beyond the Stage" speaks to men as well as women in a beautifully personal way that is reminiscent of old school hip hop. Buy Beyond The Stage it gives you back what music is losing; the lyricism, the heart and the soul. "I am the second coming of the first poet that you ever fell in love with" Eryk Moore "Church" - That he is!

60 seconds w/ with Walter "P.O.P." Matthews

When did Poetry/Spoken Word become a part of your life? How did you come to incorporate it with music?
Spoken word/ Poetry became a part of my life officially in 2004 when I was inspired to write a book of Poetry " The Blood of my Pen". I was received very well on online poetry forums so I went through a prolific spell of writing from 2004 to 2008. I come from a conscious rapper's background so the transition into poetry was very easy.

How the music came about is I just wanted to be a written poet and there was a big demand from poetry networks and the local record label that I was on to do audio. So that's when the Spoken Word from  Poet of Pain was born.

Who inspired you creatively to use writing and music as an outlet?

My ultimate inspiration was the late Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. When I heard his music that emotional touched my soul, I knew I forever wanted to be a part of music. My name Poet of Pain is a homage to him and any music that's directly from the heart.

What is POP productions?

A voice for the voiceless.  P.O.P. Productions is me Walter Monroe. The POP nickname was born at The Black Poetry Cafe. I created this production company because being an artist I know what artists like. I specialize in teaching artists how to properly self record, I compose music to fit the theme of their album, and I mix and master to give everyone a professional sound. I dedicated this business to all of the poetry networks because they all were a big part of me getting to this place that I'm at.

What do you look for in artists to work with?

I look for Integrity, honesty, drive, and passion. I want artists to be more excited about their project than I am. That creative vigor is very infectious.

Who or what inspires you creatively?

The who, this awesome guitarist and MC by the name of Heron Demarco. He's one of the only underground artist that I've heard that make me want to play my guitar, write, or get in the booth immediately.
The What, the root and origin of ALL music and that's heavenly Praise and Worship

Rap or Spit w/PBS welcomes Geovannimarcel TONIGHT

Rap or Spit with PBS is starting 2011 with a bang. Ladies and Gentleman, my feature poet for tonight's show is Geovannimarcel. She will start in at 9PM CST. The last hour will be open mic. If you'd like listen to the show, call to show love or spit a hot piece during the open mic, please click HERE OR CALL 347-945-7258. More on Geovannimarcell below!!!

Geovannimarcel is a spoken word artist by trade and a child of God by grace. She has been through many trials and tribulations in her 36 years on this earth but has realized that even with those trials and tribulations she is blessed.
The single mother of 5 beautiful children ranging in ages from 2 to 17, she has struggled to take care of them alone but anyone who knows her knows that those children are her very reason for existence.

Being a Native American poet, Geovannimarcel is an activist not only for her community but also for any injustice that she hears of. She has been at Native American protests, staged prtoests against abortion clinics, raised money for local charities as well as charities afar and has always given her life to fight homelessness and domestic violence.

Domestic violence is something that she personally has gone through and can say that she is a survivor, again, by the grace of God.

Traveling across the country for the last 7 years, Geovannimarcel has graced the stage with many of the greats. She has had intimate conversations with the likes of Abiodune Oyewole from the last poets, Talaam Acey, Amiri and Amini Baraka and many of the Def Jam poets are considered some of her best friends. These people are the reason she keeps doing what she does in poetry because like Max Parthas has always told her and anyone else he comes in contact with, "In this world, all we have are our balls and our words" and she has lived by those words since the day she started writing them at the age of 9.

A Prysmatic Dreams Poet and an artist of the New Word Order, Geovannimarcel can sit back on any given day and thank God that she is still here and thank all of the poets that she has crossed paths with. She has spent her life in the service of others and anyone who knows Geovannimarcel will tell you that what you hear on the radio or see on the stage is not a "Poetic Persona", it is her real and raw.

Geovannimarcel may be her stage name but she will always remain Misty Garrett, Native American poet no matter where she is or what she is doing. If you don't like to be told the truth, get ready if you speak with her because that is what you are going to get.
