THROWBACK VIDEO - ANGELA JOHNSON - THEY DON'T KNOW (LIVE) & CRYIN' OVER YOU (LIVE)

Angela Johnson was raised in Utica, NY. She grew up listening to Motown, 70s soul and gospel. She was a musical prodigy and played the piano by the time she was 4 years old and the violin by the time she was 9 years old.  Angela is the oldest of 4 kids. Johnson grew up Baptist and was the choir director, organist and she could sing! Her icons were Angela Winbush and Patrice Rushen. Music being her passion, she enrolled in SUNY (State University of New York to study more about the violin.  SUNY is where she met her future Cooly's Hot Box bandmates and her songwriting partner, Christian Urich. Dance hits like "We Don't Have To Be Alone, "Make Me Happy" and "What A Surprise" earned them an international reputation for soulful and groovy music.  Angela left Cooly's Hot Box and went solo and released her phenomenal CD "They Don't Know." Some of the standouts are: "No Better Love," "Cryin' Over You," "They Don''t Know," "Call," and "Some Kinda Wonderful." Her second solo CD was "Got To Let It Go." As a  front woman for Cooly's Hot Box she got to tour the world. Angela has written songs for Conya Doss, Seek, Laurnea, Monet, Reel People and Japanese R&B superstar, Double. Her compilation CD "A Woman's Touch" had such artists as Maysa, Eric Roberson, Marlon Saunders, Claude McKnight, Gordon Chambers, Frank McComb and Rahsaan Patterson. It became "Album of the Year" on Soul Tracks  Reader's Choice Awards. One of my favorite songs by Angela is "All In Me" featuring Darien. You have got to check it out on YouTube. Her latest CD is "It's Personal" which dropped in 2010.  You can't go wrong with any of Angela's CDs. Angela is married and has a beautiful daughter.
