Martha Redbone is a singer/songwriter/producer/activist. She is a native of Brooklyn, NY. Her father is African American and her mother is part Cherokee, Shawnee and Choctaw descent. Her music is a mix of R&B, soul music infused with traditional Native American music. She won The 6th Annual Independent Music Awards for Best R&B album for her "Skintalk" album in 2007. Her albums are Home of the Brave (2001) and Skintalk (2004). She is finishing up her 3rd album, tentatively called "Garden of Love." She expects a late summer or early fall release date, followed by a tour. Since her last CD she and hubby, Aaron Whitby have had baby boy who is now 2yrs old. My favorite track on her first CD is "Boyfriend." You must listen to the lyrics closely. She has been compared to nearly everyone . . . Billy Holiday, Patti Austin and Vanessa Williams to Macy Gray, Des'ree and Kelis to Roberta Flack, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight and Prince. Yes, Prince. All I know is she can s-a-a-a-n-g!
